The UK Government have officially given planning permission for the construction of the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon.
Fantastic news for everyone involved, as well as the prospects of the Wyre Eco-THEP (Tidal Hydro Energy Plant), it is said that the main draw for the government is the incredible potential for new industry and trade in the region.
“We need more clean and home-grown sources of energy, which will help to reduce our reliance on foreign fossil fuels,” Lord Bourne, Energy Minister, has said, “Low carbon energy projects like the tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay could bring investment, support local jobs and help contribute to the Welsh economy and Swansea area.”
Backing from the government at large, as well as the Department of Energy and Climate Change directly, is extremely promising, with benefits to Welsh economy and employment, as well as placing Swansea firmly on the global map when it comes to green energy.
